THREE TYPES OF LIFE INSURANCE
ALL Life Insurance, while definitely NOT created equal, breaks down into one of these three main types...
One of, if not THE most crucial aspect of your life insurance policy is what TYPE of Life Insurance it is. Depending on what type you have will determine if your coverage will always be the same price or increase over time, or whether it lasts a lifetime or eventually expires, ultimately determining whether or not coverage will be there for our families when they need it the most.

Three Options to Cover Final Expenses
1. WHOLE LIFE...
Life Insurance that lasts your entire life and is guaranteed to pay out to your beneficiary. Simply put, Whole Life is like OWNING your Life Insurance, because once you are approved and it is in place, the price you pay and coverage amount remain the same for life and no one can make any changes but you. Whole life policies consist of…
-
Coverage Lock, Coverage amount NEVER Expires or Decreases
-
Premium Lock, Premium payment NEVER increases
-
Coverage NEVER expires as long as premiums are paid
-
Cash Value
-
Surrender Options (Cash Back, Paid up Insurance, Extended Term)
-
Carrier Specific Riders/Features
-
Accelerated Death Benefit - Critical/Chronic/Terminal Illness, Nursing Home Confinement
-
Accidental Death Benefit- double or triple accidental coverage
-
Member Benefits
-
Grandchild Term rider
-
Grandchild Whole Life policies
*Simplified Issue is the type of whole life used for Final Expenses. Simplified Issue means there are no medical exams or bloodwork, only a medical background/prescription history check*
2. TERM LIFE ...
-
Policies that last for a specified number of years or until a certain age. Simply put, Term Life Insurance is like RENTING your life insurance…and the insurance company is the landlord. You do not own your policy, it does not build value, and after each “term” is up, the “rent” goes up. Eventually coverage will not be offered any longer once you reach certain age. After that specified “term” 1 of 3 things happens…
1) Option to continue coverage, but pay an INCREASED Premium
2) Option to continue coverage, but have a DECREASED Benefit Amount.
3) Expire all together with no option to continue coverage.
-
LESS than 5% of term policies ever pay out a benefit because people outlive them or they become unaffordable as you get older.
-
NO, you DO NOT get the money you paid into a term policy back if you outlive it. (Unless you pay extra for a Return of Premium Rider)
3. UNIVERSAL LIFE...
-
Most difficult type of life insurance to understand because it has qualities of both a term and whole life. If set up properly it can last your whole life. If not set up properly, it can expire before you pass away and neither you or your family receive anything for all those years of payments. So to keep it simple…
-
Universal Life insurance provides either an adjustable or fixed death benefit. It builds a cash value in the early policy years and in the ladder years it uses that built up cash value to help supplement the cost of insurance, which increases as you age. When it has used up all of the cash built up to supplement your premium payments you are responsible for the entirety of the vastly increased premium, or the policy expires.
